The Silver Star Medal
The Silver Star Medal was awarded to Ram Chavez on November 1, 2008 for action 40 years ago in Vietnam. The action took place on May 7, 1968 with Company D, 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, and 199th Light Infantry Brigade. The reason it took 40 years is best explained in the book by Robert Tosontic, Days of Valor on page 228. Sgt. Pasqual Ramirez shown above was one of the soldiers rescued by Ram Chavez on May 7, 1968.

Bronze Star with V for Valor
The Bronze Star Medal with “V” for Valor was awarded to Ram Chavez for action on February 23, 1968 for recuing two wounded soldiers and the body of a fallen soldier in Cholon, Vietnam with Co. D, 4th Bn. 12th Inf. 199th Light Infantry Brigade.
