The Veterans Band of Corpus Christi, Texas
The Veterans Band was found on June 3, 1986 by Musical Director Ram Chavez, a Vietnam Veteran and school music educator. The Veterans Band was formed as a musical group composed of veterans from all the armed forces and who served from WWII to the present. The Veterans Band has performed at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Veterans Day 1994 in Washington, D. C.

Military Order of the Purple Heart
Ram Chavez is the commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Alaniz-Valentine Chapter 598 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Alaniz-Valentine were two Corpus Christi Area Gulf War soldiers killed during the war. At that time, we hope that they would be the last casualties of our area. Ram Chavez is also the State Legislative Officer for the MOPH Department of Texas.
