I spend my tour with Company D, 4th Bn. 12th, from Jan. 1, 1968 to May 1968, the date at the end is lost due to the fact my replacement, Havey Lynn Cooley, was KIA on May 6, 1968 and I returned and replaced him.

Presidential Unit Citation (Army), Streamer embroidered SAIGON (company D 4th Battalion 12th Infantry cited )I was a member of D Company, 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry from January 2, 1967 to May 16-20,1968, Capt. James Dabney, Co. Commander. I served with A Company of the 4th Battalion from December 6, 1967 to January 1, 1968, and in D Company 4th Bn. 12th. Inf. from Jan. 1, 1968 to May 12 or 16th 1968. It was a hard time at the end and I just don't remember the last day on the field.

Chuck McGrown, Pasqual Ramirez, Otis Wells, and Raymond Witzig, some of the finest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and served with. Chuck and Raymond, and my replacement Harvey Lynn Cooley lost their lives on the field of battle on May 6, 1968, but we, who served with them will never forget them

8. Keeping a watchful eye is senior Medic Sp4 Ramiro Chavez, of D Company, 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry, 199th Infantry Brigade, as members of his company push - through dense jungle, in a battalion recon force operation, which netted 18,000 pounds of enemy rice and the destruction of enemy bunkers and tunnel complexes.
